What will my treatment consist of?

There are many varied methods of acupuncture including the use of needs, electro acupuncture, moxa and cupping. Depending on your condition you may have treatment with needles, cups or a combination of both. The needles are left in between 15 to 40 minutes. Contrary to popular belief most treatments are painless and relaxing.

In addition to acupuncture you may be given some lifestyle or dietary advice that will speed up your recovery.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture consists of the gentle insertion and stimulation of thin, sterile disposable needles at strategic points near the surface of the body.

It is thought that acupuncture acts on the endorphin system in the body which is particularly useful in pain relief. Through treatment the body enters a deep state of relaxation, balance and healing.

What is acupuncture good for ?

Acupuncture is probably best known for the effective treatment of pain relief.

However, there are a number of other disorders that can also be treated including the following:

Infections: Common colds, sore throat, Hay fever

Internal conditions: such as Collitis, Indigestion, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Blood pressure

Headaches: Stress, Tension, Migraines

Mental/emotional: Anxiety, Depression, stress, Insomnia, Addictions

Musculoskeletal: Arthritis, Sciatica, Back pain, Stiff neck, Frozen shoulder, Sprains etc.

Genito-urinary: Pre mentrual tension, Period pains, Irregular periods, Menopause.

In addition other conditions I have successfully treated very successfully include infertility, sickness in pregnancy, inducing labour, nosebleeds, oedema, sciatica, constipation and cystitis.

What will my first treatment entail?

Firstly you will be asked a number of questions about your current condition, including any current medication you are on. A full case history will be taken which will aid in the diagnosis.

Sometimes the acupuncturist will do a physical examination, depending on your complaint. They will look at your tongue, check your pulse and may also use abdominal palpation.

How long before I get better?

Although some health problems can be cleared up in a couple of treatments, most problems will take more than one treatment. Expect to have four treatments before a reassessment. Along the way you should feel an overall improvement in your health as your main complaint improves as well.

What clients have said about my services

I had suffered for nearly ten years with a shoulder problem which caused me pain and limited movement; I wasn’t able to swim or lift and it became so bad that I had an appointment for surgery, which I was told by the surgeon was the only treatment for what he diagnosed as Acute Calcific Tendonitis.

That was three years ago and I still have no pain or limitation, I regularly go swimming and I’m so glad I didn’t go through with the surgery.

I’m really grateful to Sarah for improving my quality of life and If you are thinking of seeing her I would strongly recommend you do.

I was treated by Sarah Strudwick in 2002 for menopausal symptoms, using acupuncture. I chose this as I did not want to take HRT in any shape or form.

The treatment proved to be very effective for me, and 5 years later I very rarely have any hot flushes or other symptoms.

I would recommend this to anyone as an excellent alternative to HRT.

I found my acupuncture sessions with Sarah to be relaxing and calming, and her realistic approach to dealing with my complaint was reassuring. I would thoroughly recommend her service

I hadn't had a period for over 3 months and had been suffering from stress at college. After only one treatment with acupuncture from Sarah my periods started the following day. On top of that I had a few more treatments and my stress levels went right down and I felt much calmer.
